Introducing the first annual “allkpop Awards”!

Posted by diopatra on December 7, 2010

The end of the year is near, and the Korean music industry is abuzz with news of upcoming awards shows that seek to recognize the most outstanding artists in a multitude of categories.

As a nod to these important events in the K-pop realm, allkpop has decided to initiate our first ever “allkpop Awards” this year, and we’re inviting fans from all over the world to determine the results!

That’s right – the votes will be 100% determined by international K-pop fans.

In order to ensure that the results are achieved in a fair manner, we’ve established a system in which votes can be submitted once a day per category via Twitter or Facebook.

Fans can vote as many times as they like over the course of the awards voting period, but again, only one vote per category per day will be counted.

We are aiming to make this an award that accurately represents the opinions of the international K-pop community, so check out the nominees below, and help decide K-pop’s best of 2010!

IU holds her 1st fan signing event

Posted by diopatra on July 7, 2009

IU who has been labeled the young diva, held her 1st-ever fan signing event last Sunday, 5th July at the Hot Tracks outlet inside Kyobo Book Centre, Seoul.

The fan signing which lasted for over a hour saw IU signed 150 albums for fans who bought the album at the store on the same day. Besides the lucky 150, over 100 fans also crowded the store to get a glimpse of IU as well. The demographics of her fans included teens below 20, adults in their 20s and even middle-aged guys aged 30 – 40 year old. There was also an army boy who sacrified his valuable booking out time to attend IU’s fan signing event. Besides getting their album autographed, all 150 fans got a handshake with IU while some brave souls got to take a photo with her.

Loen Entertainment said, “We have been receiving lots of requests to organize an official event since IU begun her promotions. So we decided to organize this to thank the fans for their support.” IU herself expressed, “I was kind of nervous but yet anticipating it because it helped in bringing the distance between me and my fans closer.”

Singer IU released her first full-length album Growing Up on the 16th and had begun promotions for it on the 17th on KBS2TV Music Bank with her title song Boo. She made her debut last September with her 1st mini-album and her song Missing Child (Miya). Although she was only 15 back then, her solid and mature vocals plus stage presence seems to be pointing to a promising singing career.

Before releasing her new album and starting on promotions, IU (real name: Lee Ji Eun) has had to cope with a busy schedule, alternating between preparing for her album and handling her school examinations. IU has been treating the studio as her second home recently as she is there daily after school ends for vocal and dance training. Her title song Boo is a tune from the 80s retro era as LOEN Entertainment said, “We are adopting a vastly different concept compared to her previous. She is now busy handling album promotions and her school examinations. She is a child who has a great attitude when it comes to learning, and always squeezes out time to learn new things. We believe that she will do well regardless in whatever she does.”

when i’ve seen this news, i know i’ve encountered this artist already but not really familiar with her. so i’ve search her debut performance, seriously, she’s good in ballad. so i just cant understand why shift in cutesy image if you have the voice. i know she need to act on her age, sing songs for her age, but seriously, with all the girls groups doing the cutesy image, a solo artist must have a really catchy song to stand out among this girl groups. her new song is not that bad, but its not also that great compare to recent songs released.

but i still want to see what will happen to this girl. seriously, her voice is better than members of girl groups these days. and she’s only 15. watch her debut song…..
