Posted by diopatra on January 31, 2010

The Korean singer Rain descended in Kaohsiung, causing the second-largest city in Taiwan to become paralyzed by a swarm of fans who came out to welcome him.

Rain arrived in the Taiwanese city on Thursday night for his performance, titled “Legend of Rainism.”

Even though his arrival time was 10 p.m., some 500 fans gathered at the airport to see the Korean pop idol.

The airport pooled a number of security guards to maintain order, according to the JoongAng Ilbo Saturday.

A number of Taiwanese media outlets also dispatched reporters and TV crews to the scene.

The city’s major Qu Ju also showed up in person at the airport, introducing Rain to the fans. Rain responded by saying “It’s my great pleasure to visit Kaohsiung” in the local Taiwanese dialect.

Kumi Koda’s first overseas concerts

Posted by diopatra on July 13, 2009

Kumi Koda (26) will finally hold her first overseas concerts later this year. Koda, who is currently one of the biggest names in pop in Japan, is also known throughout the rest of Asia as a top artist. So she will have her chance to perform for her international fans on October 3-4, at the National Taiwan University.

Koda made her CD debut in 2000 with the song “Take Back,” which also got a U.S. release. Starting with that, she has been aiming to becoming an international artist, and has even appeared at events in other countries, including the U.S. and Korea. Surprisingly, though, she has never actually held a concert outside Japan before her upcoming shows in Taiwan. In addition, this will be her first trip to that country.

With roughly 10,000 fans expected to attend the concerts, Koda is said to be preparing a large-scale production, similar to her performances in Japan. Her most recent tour involved about 200 staff members and a budget of about 80 million yen. But Koda stated that she is also looking to make her first Taiwan concerts special in some way.

Flight delayed; Super Junior can’t bear to leave Taiwan

Popular South Korean boyband Super Junior were supposed to take their flight back to Korea yesterday, but due to a problem with the airplane’s deicer system, the 12 of them were stuck in the VIP waiting room for 6 hours, only successfully leaving in the evening, leading to the staff and security personel to nickname them as “The Longest Sending-Off In History”!

After the Golden Melody Awards on Saturday, Super Junior then proceeded to the Fuhsing branch of KiKi for their supper, and the Taiwanese branch of the recording company even specially arranged for a birthday celebration for Leeteuk, Heechul and Ryeowook, the July babies.

Less nervous after their performance, the twelve of them were extremely rowdy and played to their hearts’ content. Kangin even ran around scaring people with a string of party-poppers, and the party ended only at around 1 in the morning.

Early yesterday morning, many fans rushed to the airport to grab hold of the last chance to be in close contact with Super Junior. They cleared customs at 11 in the morning, but no one expected the sudden announcement of the delay in flight time because of the deicer problem. The twelve members therefore had to amuse themselves in the VIP waiting room, and many of them were cheekily asking to “stay behind”.

The sole Chinese member, Han Geng, was once again the vocal speaker for Super Junior. Born in the province of Heilongjiang, Mudanjiang City, he was an avid lover of dance and was picked by SM through the H.O.T China auditions in 2001. He then proceeded to Korea alone, and is now the leader of the sub-unit Super Junior M, which is focused on the Chinese music market.

Han Geng professed that this was actually his third time visiting Taiwan, the first being when he was a teen and a performer for an ethnic dance performance. He also expressed his wish for SJ-M to be able to promote in Taiwan someday.
